The purpose of this website is to provide information, facilitate discussion and engage support in relation to the conservation of the lily hybrids developed by Dr Christopher North.
During the 1960s and 70s Dr Christopher North (Chris North to those who knew him) used Asiatic varieties and species to create an array of hybrid lilies, which combined the elements lily lovers might use to define “beauty”, i.e. elegance (of form), subtlety (of colour) and delicacy (of scent). The sight and scent of a drift of North Hybrids, whether from the Greek Gods series, the North Ladies series or both, is something worth seeking and possessing. However, achieving this desire is increasingly problematic, as North Hybrids are becoming almost as scarce as their beauty - hence the need to conserve them.
Steps have already been taken to conserve Chris North’s Hybrids (see “Articles” for details), but more should be done. Hence, this website has been developed with the aim of engaging people, whether committed devotees of North Hybrids or interested novices, in helping to ensure a lily legacy that should not be allowed to disappear.
As the Menu indicates, this website contains:
- Chris North’s “Mylnefield Lilies” CD (the primary source about the development of North Hybrids)
- Articles
- Photos (recent digital images of North Hybrids)
- Discussion Forum (for asking/answering questions, exchanging views/experiences, submitting photos etc)
- Bulb Sources (including a mechanism for exchanging bulbs for scaling and sharing)
